WHAT IS SOPHROLOGY?

It was Alfonso Caycedo, a Colombian psychiatrist and neurologist, who developed sophrology in the early 1960s. Very interested in modified states of consciousness, this university professor has also done a lot of research on therapeutic hypnosis. . He thus creates the term "sophrology" which comes from Greek and means "study of consciousness in equilibrium".

This new discipline consists of setting up relaxation techniques that are inspired by yoga, Zen or meditation. The patient thus reaches a high level of concentration, which helps him to know himself better. Sophrology is considered a brief therapy. Nevertheless it can be practiced in the long term if the patient feels the need. It is a complementary discipline that can be coupled with traditional medicine as well as psychology sessions.

THE BENEFITS OF SOPHROLOGY

Many problems can be treated by sophrology: pressure in business; chronic stress; mental improvement in sports competitions; eating disorders ; phobias; stop smoking ; insomnia; self-confidence, etc. Before you start taking any medication, you can try these relaxation methods.

You can also use a sophrologist in case of chronic pain. Before, it is important to consult a doctor to diagnose the origin of your pain.

PROCEEDINGS OF A SOPHROLOGY SESSION

Sophrology helps you to feel positive effects physically, mentally and emotionally. It's about focusing on your body and the present moment while freeing you from negative thoughts. A sophrology session lasts about an hour and takes place in several stages.

You begin with a short dialogue with your practitioner to describe your physical and mental state. You will then relax your body with movements and breathing exercises. Finally, you are immersed in a state between sleep and sleep: sitting or lying down, you reach a state of deep relaxation. A second dialogue concludes the session and allows you to express yourself on the emotions felt.
