What are carbohydrates?

Carbohydrates are one of the basic constituents of our diet, just like proteins or lipids. It is about organic molecules (including oxygen, carbon ...). Carbohydrates have the role of providing energy. But they also participate in the functioning of cells, organs and tissues. There are different kinds of carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are digested slowly and release their energy gradually. Called slow sugars, they have a beneficial role on health. Simple carbohydrates are called "fast". They are digested without transformation and have a "whiplash" effect on our body by providing usable sugars without delay. If they are consumed in excess, they can cause metabolic disorders. Fibers are another category of carbohydrates. But these are not assimilated and therefore do not bring energy.

Where to find carbohydrates?

Carbohydrates are found mainly in plant foods. Conversely, they are almost absent from meat . Pasta, rice, legumes and potatoes are known as complex carbohydrates. They are particularly appreciated by athletes who are preparing to provide a long effort. Confectionery, fruit and juice, table sugar and other drinks are simple carbohydrates. It is therefore advisable to monitor their consumption, especially to keep the line.
