We all have desires but it is difficult to put a word on what we are looking for exactly. It would be a certain contentment, the feeling of not lacking anything, not even time. The Swedes have a word that encompasses all this: lagom , which could be translated as "just right". After the trend of hygiene that we loved this winter, the Swedes continue to inspire us.

What is lagom?

In Swedish , "lag" means "law" and in old Swedish, "laguhm" can be translated as "according to law". More than a philosophy of life, lagom is a true Swedish way of life, moderate and responsible, which is part of the trend of slow living. In the current Western world, we tend to operate on the principle of "all or nothing". One wants to surpass to equal the perfect lives depicted on glossy paper. Result? One is stressed, exhausted, envious, egocentric ... Well the lagom, it's all the reverse! Today the term means "Neither too much, nor too little" and evokes a happy medium ... and this is perhaps the secret of happiness. At work, at home, in our relationship to the environment or to health, lagom applies everywhere. By privileging the common good rather than the interest of everyone lagom philosophy could be the key to a more balanced and sustainable life , based on the simple pleasures of existence and not those of consumption.

How to adopt lagom in its decoration?

A new base for a healthier life, lagom is also an art of living ... which is expressed in the decoration. Here are some tricks to create a trendy interior and cocoon:

  1. Lines and shapes . Swedish design is often referred to as "simple" and "uncluttered". A return to the essentials, without any frills, that does good. We therefore rely on the simplicity of forms and lines.
  2. Light . In a country where the sun does not rise all winter, you compensate by designing very luminous interiors. White, beige, opt for neutral colors.
  3. Opening . Clean, Swedish interiors are never oppressive. Yet, there is nothing lacking: deco, furniture, textile ... everything is there. We inspire ourselves to let air circulate!
