Shrewsbury have signed defender James Bolton from National League side Gateshead for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old, who is a right-back who can also play at centre-back, has joined the Shrews on a two-year deal and he is looking forward to the chance to play in League One for the first time.

He told Shrewsbury's official website: "I'm really pleased to have finally got it through.

"It was an easy decision with it being in the Football League and being such a big club, so it was brilliant. It's always been my goal to play in the Football League and hopefully I get the opportunity to do it here.

"It's going to take time to adjust. It's not like I'm going to get straight into the pace of it, but I'm confident that I can get used to it and hopefully do well for the team."

Meanwhile, midfielder Jim O'Brien has mutually agreed to end his contract with Shrewsbury and has joined Ross County on a two-year deal, having spent the second half of last season on loan at the Staggies.
