Aaron Mauger has revealed his delight after being appointed as the new head coach of the Highlanders on a three-year contract.

The former Crusaders and New Zealand centre was sacked by Leicester Tigers back in March but is now set for a move back to his homeland with the Highlanders.

With previous coach Tony Brown heading off to pastures new in Japan, Mauger is looking forward to the challenge of trying to get the Highlanders back to the top of Super Rugby once again.

"The Highlanders have a solid foundation of good core values and a tight-knit culture," said Mauger.

"It's a credit to all those who have worked hard to establish an environment that allows people to express themselves and thrive as individuals.

"I am excited at the prospect of working with this team to help further the Highlanders."
