"Femininity of wood", a small revolution

In 1992, the perfumers Christopher Sheldrake and Pierre Bourdon, under the impulse of Serge Lutens, released, for Shiseido, the perfume "Féminité du bois". It is a small revolution, because it is one of the very first fragrances really wooded for women. So far, these notes have been reserved for male fragrances. Other creations such as "Bois des îles", launched by Chanel in 1926, or "Samsara", created by Guerlain in 1989, had already made this bet. But "Femininity of Wood" goes further, truly putting Virginia and Atlas cedar wood, present in very large quantities. This is accompanied by more feminine and more flowery notes (pink, ylang-ylang and violet), but also by fruits such as peach, orange and plum, and spices like cinnamon and clove .

"Féminité du bois", the flagship perfume of the Serge Lutens collection

In the years 2000, "Femininity of wood" integrates the Serge Lutens collection. As such, the bottle changes its shape. The drop bottle is abandoned for a rectangular and very sober version, which is the trademark of Serge Lutens. Today, this perfume is considered as mixed, which can be worn by men as well as by women - it is the spirit of all the other perfumes of Serge Lutens.

"Femininity of wood", a source of inspiration

"Féminité du bois" has inspired many other creations, such as "Dolce Vita" by Dior, in 1995, also created by Pierre Bourdon. Another example: "Tam Dao" by Diptyque, whose agreements put a little more value on the sandalwood. These tones will also be found in the series of "Salons of the royal palace" created by Shiseido and directed by the same Serge Lutens.
