What is the vegetarian diet?

The vegetarian diet is to exclude proteins of animal origin . It favors legumes , fruits , vegetables and cereals . However, products derived from animals (eggs and dairy products) are allowed, depending on the religious , moral , ecological or prevention of certain diseases (cardiovascular disorders, cholesterol, obesity, hypertension ...). According to the principles of each, vegetarianism is divided into 5 categories:

The ovolactovégétarien diet : One does not consume animal products, on the other hand the resulting products like the dairy products and the eggs are authorized. This diet excludes only meat.

The lactovégétarien diet : One does not consume animal products but the by-products of animal origin are authorized, except the eggs.

The ovovegetarian diet : We do not eat animal products or dairy products, but eggs are allowed.

The pescovegetarian diet : One does not eat meat but one can consume fish as well as products of animal origin.

The vegan diet : It is the strictest form of the vegetarian diet. Meat, fish and by-products of animal origin are banned. It consists of eating mainly fruits, vegetables and cereals.

A vegetarian diet is balanced and covers the nutritional needs if we do not exclude too much food (eg vegan diet). It allows you to fill up with fiber and nutrients . In the long term, it contributes to lowering cholesterol and cardiovascular disorders . It plays a preventive role for the problems of hypertension , osteoporosis and diabetes . Finally, it provides a feeling of satiety .


The least of the vegetarian diet

Beware of shortcomings in the long run! Studies have shown that vegetarians have dietary intakes of minerals and vitamins below those recommended. Animal products being banned, this causes deficiencies of vitamin B12 , iron , calcium , zinc and vitamin D. Hence the interest of learning to cook legumes , nuts and seeds .

The vegetarian diet is not primarily aimed at weight loss . Although the foods recommended in this diet help to lose weight and keep the line . The vegetarian diet is above all a philosophy of life ! It is for all those who want a good food hygiene and people with moral convictions .
