Harlequins have drafted in second row Ben Glynn as they plan to be without regular starter Sam Twomey for the start of next term.

Twomey sustained a foot injury in the early stages of 2016-17 and he had been forced to undergo further surgery, which will keep him sidelined for an extended period.

Quins have turned to Glynn to deputise and he joins after playing earning 18 Aviva Premiership outings for Bristol last season.

Director of rugby John Kingston admitted Twomey’s absence is a blow but feels Glynn will be able to step up and perform.

Kingston told the club’s official website: “It is really disappointing to see that Sam Twomey has had to undergo a further operation on a foot injury he sustained last season.

“Ben will provide excellent cover for the coming season; he is an experienced operator who has played many times in the Premiership.

“He will complement the locks we have within our senior roster.”
