At a symposium on the oral health of children under 6 , organized on October 13, 2016, several recommendations were issued by the UFSBD (French Union for Oral Health). Among them :

- Give priority to breastfeeding , the first months. What relationship with the teeth, are we wondering? The suction and the effort it causes in the jaw allows the teeth to position themselves later. It is known, for example, that there is 2 times less malocclusion in breastfed children up to 12 months than in those who have been less than 3 months.

- During diversification, do not stay on a smooth texture for too long. Accustomed to swallow all these purees without pieces, little ones do not learn to chew and do not work enough their jaws. Result: the musculature and the frame do not develop optimally. Concretely: if the smooth texture (in the form of mashed fruits and vegetables from small pots or homemade production) is introduced from 4 months, it is necessary gradually to move to textures including small pieces fondant , between 6 and 9 months.

- Wean the little ones from the pacifier. This is the question all parents ask themselves: at what age? The UFSBD answers: we stop the pacifier before 3 years . No indication for those who suck their thumb .... It is even more difficult to stop them.

- between 19 and 31 months, make sure to limit the risk of mother-to-child transmission . In other words, avoid spooning that we tasted to his baby. This reduces the risk of caries transmission because we know recently that it is also a bacterial disease and can be contagious.
