"light" and "lightened": a difference?

Highlighted in the supermarket shelves, light, lighter, sugar-free and other flavored drinks are the slimming allies of all those who want to lose weight. But what do these products actually contain? Are they harmless to health ? Our inquiry!

Difficult to distinguish between the name "light" and "light". Many of us think that these two words mean the same thing ... But this is not the case!
Let there be no mistake! Even if the French translation of the word "light" is "lite", in terms of regulation, it is not the same thing.

Indeed, a product "light" must imperatively have reduced by at least 30% its sugar content ! It is therefore possible to find products that are low in sugar but that contain a little bit of it ... Except for drinks! They are usually "no added sugars".

To remember :
- No sugar : means that the drink contains a maximum of 0.5g of sugar per 100ml
- No added sugar : no added sugar in the drink. If the product is sweet, it is naturally in its composition
- Reduced in sugars, lightened or light : the sugar reduction is at least 30% compared to a similar product

Light drink: Enemy of sugar?

"Light" drinks never contain sugar.

On the other hand, if it is "without added sugar" , you can still find small amounts of sugar . Strange will you tell me? Not that much since these mini-doses of sugars are actually the natural sugar present in fruit juices (even light)

The workhorse of nutritionists ? Sugar consumed too much, especially through sodas.

And sweeteners in all of this?

To replace real sugar in light drinks, we almost always use sweeteners , the best known of which is aspartame , subject for some years now to strong controversy ...

The purpose of its use ? Being poorer in calories than real sugar ...

Example : For 100 ml, a "sweet" drink contains 40 Kcal while a light drink without added sugar contains only 5 maximum.

Do light drinks make you lose weight?

Lower sugar intake means lower calorie intake and therefore weight loss.
But beware : Light or light drinks are not miracle solutions to lose weight!

The real solution? A healthy and balanced diet , regular physical activity and quench your thirst, nothing better (and more economical) than tap water !
