As time goes by, women want to regain their "natural" cycle. Is a Holy Catholic-Ecological Alliance in the Making? The papal city has said that the contraceptive pill has "for years devastating effects on the environment ".

Reluctance also in the suburbs. Animator at the Family Planning in Saint-Denis and Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), Cécile Sarafis is delighted, with a bit of provoc educational goal: "Good, because the pill is very often prescribed first, as if there were no other means of contraception. But it is a brilliant invention, but not suitable for all women, especially when the sexuality of girls is taboo, prohibited before marriage , controlled by families for cultural or religious reasons. Not to mention all those who have to hide their plate to the husband who wants a sixth child ... "

Yet all this reluctance hides a major contradiction: even reluctantly, women continue to take the pill overwhelmingly. Almost 58% of French women, 10% more than in 1994. Today, 66% of young people aged 15 to 19 use it when they have a stable boyfriend. The record is held by the 20/24 years, with 88% of users.

Hence this "French paradox": while the majority of French women take the pill, the number of abortions has hardly changed since 1975: more than 200,000 per year! And the most surprising is the IVG under contraception, more than 23% of which concern women on pill ... In other words, women continue to take the pill, but many forget it. Like those 92% of users who have zapped their tablets between one and five times in the previous six months, according to a study of Igas launched on three departments.

Elisabeth Aubény, president of the French Association for Contraception, explains: "By pushing the interviews with those who have aborted, one realizes that some of them did not take even more their pill for several days, believing that they were still protected. Many women are poorly informed and decide to take a break "to rest their bodies". "
