Braids have been on the catwalks for many seasons, but African-inspired braids have not been popular.

A thousand miles from the bohemian mat, these are very small, very tight, and are considered either in total look, or small touches scattered in the lengths.

How to make African braids?

  • Unravel the hair.
  • Start the braid at the forehead or above the skull.
  • Divide the hair into three equal sized strands.
  • Place the left wick on the middle one.
  • Put the right wick on the middle wick.
  • With the right hand, take a wick to add to the strand on the right. Then, pass this strand over the middle one.
  • Make the same gesture with the left strand.
  • Continue until the braid is finished making sure to tighten it.
  • Tie the end with a rubber band.

To be done with all the hair in a sporty chic spirit, or on the half head up to the ears for a more romantic look.

Namely: impossible to fit on freshly washed hair. Either we wait at least two days after a shampoo, or we texturize to the maximum, with a mousse, a dry shampoo or even a thin lacquer. On a daily basis, we braid just a few mini-locks taken randomly in the hair taking care to tighten the strands.

The African braid, for whom?

Those who have a rather dense and thick hair, which avoids seeing too much skin. Even when they are adopted sparingly, African braids live better in generous hair.
